Our Head of ESG’s highlights – key sustainability achievements for 2025

What happens when ambitious goals and long-term sustainability work come together? For us, 2025 included several significant sustainability actions and achievements, and we once again exceeded our energy efficiency and climate targets. Our Head of ESG Pirkko Airaksinen compiled key findings and achievements from our sustainability review – check out the summary and highlights of the year.

#1 in GRESB

We shared first place in the GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) assessment as the most sustainable real estate company in our peer group, both in terms of existing property portfolio and real estate development, and were named Global Sector Leader in our industry.

100% emission-free energy

All our properties operate on emission‑free energy, and value chain emissions (Scope 3) in, for example, our construction projects and property maintenance have decreased by over 35% from the 2019 baseline.

400 h of volunteer work

During 2025, Sponda employees devoted 400 working hours to volunteering, including, among other things, working at Andreaskyrkan’s food bank, cleaning up beaches on Baltic Sea Day and doing gardening work at Ronald Mc Donald House.

43.7% of portfolio in A/B energy classes

By the end of 2025, 43.7% of our portfolio (by value) had reached EPC A or B, with targets of 60% by 2026 and 70% for prime properties, mainly in central Helsinki.

6,000 MWh of energy savings

By the end of 2025, we reduced energy consumption across our portfolio by 17.6% (compared to the 2016–2018 average), achieving nearly 6,000 MWh in savings through energy efficiency measures last year.

141 community events

Sponda’s shopping centres hosted 141 community events during 2025. These free of charge events, such as Earth Hour and Pride  reached over 2 million people.
