Sponda’s energy-efficient office development in Tikkurila celebrates milestone topping out ceremony

Sponda, one of Finland’s leading real estate asset management companies, will hold a topping out ceremony to celebrate an important milestone at its new office and retail building in Vantaa, near Tikkurila railway station. Launched in summer 2022, the development at Lauri Korpisen katu 9 is on track to complete by the end of 2024 – early 2025. The property will offer approximately 16,000 square metres of high-quality and sustainable commercial spaces with excellent transport connections. Valmet, a leading global developer and supplier of process technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper and energy industries, has agreed a lease to be the main tenant of the building upon completion.

Lauri Korpisen katu 9 has been designed with a focus on flexibility and energy efficiency. Sponda has worked closely with Valmet to ensure the space it will occupy supports the needs of the business and its employees.

“Valmet is a fantastic example of a global pioneering company that wants to invest in sustainable premises and the wellbeing of its personnel. There is now strong demand for centrally located, high-quality, adaptable premises as companies aim to attract staff to the offices. The office environment allows for greater collaboration, which builds a stronger corporate culture, supporting innovation and wellbeing at work,” says Sponda’s President and CEO Christian Hohenthal.

Valmet, which will become the tenant of the building, will transfer its operations from two locations to the Lauri Korpisen katu office. Approximately 800 people will work in the building once it is completed.

“The facilities that are now being built will support our operations and the well-being of our personnel well into the future in the best possible way. The new office building is a significant investment for our personnel in Finland. In September, we were chosen as the most ideal employer in Finland among technology professionals. We believe that this new office of ours in Tikkurila will be a strong attraction factor in the coming years and decades,” says Kimmo Kohtamäki, Valmet’s Director of Group Real estate.

Smooth transport connections and versatile services

Employees will be able to enjoy the building’s range of services and amenities, including a restaurant, a new Lidl grocery store, a large bicycle parking station and storage, showers and a car parking hall with electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, the building’s services are complemented by being located in the immediate vicinity of the Tikkurila railway station and Dixi shopping centre.

“We are happy that we can finally open a store near the Tikkurila train station, where we have been needed for a long time. The store, which deviates from the usual Lidl concept, will open in connection with office and business premises and will meet the grocery needs of the residents of the area. We believe that the people of Tikkurila will welcome the new Lidl well,” says Toni Lautala, Lidl’s real estate development manager.

Tikkurila, which has developed into one of the most popular business locations in Vantaa, offers excellent transport connections to Helsinki city centre, Helsinki Airport and Helsinki’s metropolitan area. Transport connections will further improve following completion of the planned Tikkurila tramway, while the future Jokiniemi campus will attract even more visitors to the area.

The property will target an EPC A rating and LEED platinum certification, with a geothermal heating system installed to help improve the building’s energy efficiency. Solar panels producing renewable energy will also be installed on the roof of the building. The carbon footprint caused by construction has also been minimised, and the goal is also to meet the requirements of the EU taxonomy.

There is still 3,600 m2 of office space available in the building, which can be rented to one or more companies in portions of 800 square metres.
