Sponda’s Citycenter attracts new brands – Digital Nature brings Moomin stories into the shopping centre

Sponda, Finland’s leading real estate asset management company, has signed a lease with Digital Nature which will see an immersive art attraction being installed at Citycenter shopping centre in the centre of Helsinki.

Digital Nature has signed a lease with Sponda on a 1,500 m2 space for the attraction. Opening in spring 2022, the main stars of the exhibition will be the beloved Moomin characters, and visitors will get to explore the world of Moomins through the art experience, which utilises animation, projectors, and audio equipment. The immersive art exhibition is the first of its kind and will bring new life to Helsinki city centre, increasing the range of Citycentre’s offering.

Digital Nature is just one new addition to Citycenter. Life, a natural health product store, also recently agreed a lease there and alongside growing numbers of customers visiting Citycentre, indicates that retail is recovering in the centre of Helsinki.

“Digital Nature’s strategy is to be present at the best business locations in cities, and for this requirement, the Citycenter shopping centre is the best possible in Helsinki. We have a strong vision of future shopping centres and other public spaces where customers come not only to shop but to enjoy experiences together with their friends and families”, says Mikko Honkakorpi, the Co-founcer and CEO of Digital Nature.

“We are pleased to welcome Digital Nature as our tenant in Citycenter. Innovative partners bring interesting new concepts into our assets, which is why collaborating with them is so refreshing. We strongly believe in creating engaging experiences, and Digital Nature is a great example of combining the physical and virtual worlds. New concepts enliven our premises and we know that customers enjoy experiences as much as strong brands and shops. We believe that by innovating in this way, we are also developing the attractiveness of the city centre and the surrounding area,” says Christian Hohenthal, the President and CEO of Sponda.

Beyond retail, new tenants will also move into Citycenter’s office premises later this year and in early 2022. This includes the technology and transport company Budbee, the publishing company Kustannus Oy Duodecim, and Leadfeeder, a company offering web analytics services. During the past 12 months, Sponda has let more than 10,000 square metres in Citycenter, demonstrating the growing demand for premium business premises.

Located on Keskuskatu street, opposite Helsinki Central Railway Station, Citycenter consists of 46,720 m2  and is one of Helsinki’s most prominent and best-known properties. Sponda has invested significantly in Citycenter over the years, and it will continue its active investment programme to develop the property which serves both real-estate customers and consumers in the city centre. Citycenter offers prime office premises and a wide range of retail and wellbeing services, such as restaurants, healthcare and banking services.
