Sponda to take part in Earth Hour for the seventh time

Sponda is participating in the global Earth Hour event arranged by WWF, held from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, 19 March.

During the event, participating communities and private persons turn off their unnecessary lights for one hour in buildings around the world. The purpose of Earth Hour is to activate people to work for the environment. 

Sponda’s properties participating in this year’s event include office properties in the Helsinki metropolitan area and Tampere, as well as shopping centres.

“The energy efficiency of buildings plays a key role in our efforts to achieve the targets set at the Paris Climate Change Conference. Sponda has set a target of reducing the energy consumption of its properties by 20% by 2020. As of the end of last year, we had already achieved a reduction of 15%. Energy efficiency and the environmental certification of properties play an important role in Sponda’s new property development projects. We want to participate in the Earth Hour event to signal our commitment to mitigating climate change,” says Hanna Duraku, Sustainability Manager at Sponda.

The global Earth Hour climate event arranged by the WWF will be organised for the tenth time this year. Last year, more than two billion people in 172 countries participated in the event, together with thousands of cities and numerous companies, communities and educational institutes. 

In Finland, the theme of this year’s Earth Hour is “the biggest candlelight dinner in the world” to draw attention to the climate impacts of food.
