Sponda awarded in the GRESB assessment for property sector responsibility
Property investment company Sponda has again been ranked among the best companies in the property sector in the international Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) survey. Sponda was awarded a Green Star in the survey for the third year running.
Sponda’s score went up by 17 per cent from last year, which is a result of the accomplishments of Sponda’s energy efficiency scheme and increasing waste recycling in properties. In addition, the external verification of energy efficiency data increased the transparency of Sponda’s energy efficiency scheme results and thus Sponda’s overall score in the comparison.
The GRESB survey has assessed the work done by companies in the property sector to promote sustainable development since 2009. The assessment includes all components of corporate responsibility, with companies evaluated comprehensively in the areas of company-level management, stakeholder co-operation and risk management. Also the energy consumption, energy certificates, waste utilisation and environmental classification affect the assessment results.
GRESB is a responsibility research and benchmark tool for the property sector. It helps to increase awareness of responsibility issues in the sector and gain valuable international comparison data. “We use the results of the report in following the development of the sector and in planning our own programmes. It is great to receive acknowledgement for the work we have done so far. It encourages us to continue the development work,” says Hanna Duraku, Sustainability Manager at Sponda.
The number of GRESB participants has increased by 11 per cent from last year. This year, data was collected from 707 companies and funds that manage 61,000 properties worldwide.
