Ratina Shopping Centre achieved record sales in 2021

Ratina Shopping Centre in Tampere, owned by Sponda, one of Finland’s leading real estate asset management companies, achieved record sales in 2021 despite the exceptional challenges posed by the pandemic. Ratina’s sales reached €141 million with an increase of 20.5% from 2020.

The number of visitors at Ratina increased by 13.4% from the previous year and amounted to 5.7 million in 2021. During the year, 24,000 new members joined Ratina’s membership loyalty programme, increasing the number of members to more than 100,000.

“Last year, we reached excellent results in terms of sales and the number of visitors. We owe a major thank you to all of our tenants – this is a joint achievement. Together, we have managed to develop the services the shopping centre offers to meet the expectations and needs of our customers. In addition, the refurbishment efforts at Ratina have improved the overall atmosphere and attractiveness of the shopping centre. I am particularly pleased about the popularity of our membership loyalty programme. 100,000 members is a very high number considering that Ratina’s area of influence covers 400,000 people. That means that more than one in four residents in the Pirkanmaa region are members”, says Mervi Ahola, Shopping Centre Manager.

Studies show Ratina had a strong year

In a survey on the shopping centres in the Tampere region, conducted by the market research company Taloustutkimus, in November 2021, Ratina’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) was clearly the highest and it ranked first in top of mind awareness. Its overall brand awareness was 98%. In the survey, Ratina received the highest overall score compared with other shopping centres in the region, and it was the only shopping centre where business grew vs 2019. During last year, 88% of the respondents said they had visited Ratina.

According to the shopping centre survey, customers appreciate how easy it is to get to Ratina. Opening hours and safety were also positively highlighted in the responses. The wide selection of cafés and restaurants as well as services for families with children received praise, along with the one-hour free parking for members of the customer loyalty programme.

In 2021, 10 new shops were opened in Ratina, and in addition to the new tenants, the shopping centre offered several interesting pop-up shops throughout the year. Riemu, a cosy outdoor playground, and the Ratinan Niitty indoor play area are hugely popular. Ratina’s selection of services continues to improve when Espresso House Nordic Box and Askarteluliike Taitava, an arts & crafts store, open their doors in the shopping centre.

Sponda is continuously developing Ratina to offer an even more interesting experience for customers. The aim is to continue to expand the selection of services offered at the shopping centre to better meet the needs of customers, and several negotiations with new tenants are ongoing.
