LEED® Gold Environmental Certificate awarded for Sponda’s office complex

The Ilmalanrinne office complex constructed by property investment company Sponda Plc has been awarded the LEED® Gold Environmental Certificate. With a floor area of approximately 20 000 square metres, the complex consists of three buildings and is situated near Pasila and the busiest access roads and main traffic arteries of Helsinki. The office complex is used by Sweco, an environment and industry expert company, which also acted as a developer consultant in the project.

“The Gold Certification received by Ilmalanrinne office complex is a fine recognition of the work we have done for energy efficiency. Environmental friendliness and solutions that improve environmental sustainability and energy efficiency were emphasised in the design and construction of the office complex. In fact, we received the highest possible score in energy efficiency in the LEED® classification”, says Hannamari Koivula, Sponda’s Sustainability Manager.

In Ilmalanrinne, particular attention is paid to energy management during the use of the complex. The Are Sensus building service system is used to take care of the heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting of the office complex.

Thanks to its excellent location, Ilmalanrinne also lies within easy reach using different means of transport. It has approximately 320 spaces for bicycle parking and its parking garage has 11 electric vehicle charging points, which are used to charge among other things the electric car in shared use at Sweco.

“At Sweco, environmental matters play an important role. We appreciate the favourable location of the premises, high-quality indoor air, energy efficient lighting control and sorting possibilities. For us, the premises reflect our promise to support sustainable social development. We are happy about the certificate and are eager to continue good cooperation with Sponda”, says Elina Samila, Sweco’s Facility Manager.

LEED® Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is one of the best-known international green building certification systems. It aims to reduce the environmental impact of construction and use of buildings as well as the development of healthier working environments. The LEED® environmental classification is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Sponda applies for international environmental classification, an environmental certificate, for all new buildings and major renovation projects. At the end of October 2016, Sponda has 13 certified properties and several certification projects in progress.
