Burger King selects Sponda’s Citycenter shopping centre for its new flagship restaurant
Sponda, one of Finland’s leading real estate asset management companies, has signed an agreement with international fast food chain Burger King to open a new flagship restaurant at its Citycenter shopping centre in the heart of Helsinki at Kaivokatu 8. The restaurant is expected to open at the end of 2024, expanding Citycenter’s food and drink offering.
Citycenter’s prime location, high customer footfall, and the impressive environmental standards the carbon-neutral property adheres to, were the main reasons Burger King chose the site for its new restaurant.
Burger King’s new restaurant will comprise approximately 400 square metres across two floors. The outlet will enhance the diverse and popular restaurant offering in the bustling downtown area by introducing high-quality fast food services, providing a versatile new dining option suitable for busy lunch hours as well as a late night snack.
‘Our new 200-seat Burger King Citycenter flagship restaurant is located in the heart of Helsinki with excellent views across the city. Employing more than 50 restaurant industry professionals, our new concept restaurant provides customers with a seamless experience that includes table service, and convenient self-service checkouts. A playground located inside the restaurant, which is a new feature in Burger King restaurants in Finland, will make this even more appealing for families with children,’ says Siru Kalpio, Business Director at Burger King.
‘We are pleased to welcome Burger King’s fantastic new restaurant to our Citycenter shopping centre in the heart of Helsinki, further enhancing the services and amenities we offer to our visitors. Visitor numbers to the centre of Helsinki are growing significantly and reflected in the number of people visiting our shopping centres. Last year, the number of visitors at Citycenter increased 13.3% year-on-year with the shopping centre hosting more than 13 million visitors overall’, says Christian Hohenthal, CEO of Sponda.
Sponda is recognised as one of the most sustainable real estate companies globally with its Citycenter shopping centre carbon neutral in terms of its in-use energy consumption. It was also awarded the BREEAM In-Use Excellent certificate in 2023.
Citycenter is conveniently located in the capital’s main public transport hub, opposite the Helsinki Central Railway Station, and is home to more than 70 shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Additionally, the Citycenter Offices at the top level of the shopping centre offer impressive office space in the heart of the city.
